This is a powerhouse of a heater. It is totally enjoyable to sit in front of this at night and watch the "flames." There is no remote control with this particular heater and that was not made clear in the description. You should know that you can get this same heater with a remote control.

I ordered this product a few months ago and had some problems with it. I was contacted by a manager from Air & Water (the company that sold the fireplace) and he was very nice and assured me that the problem would be handled promptly and accurately, and so it was. Within in 2 weeks I received a new one that works beautifully, along with a prepaid label to return the defective one. I want to personally thank Adam for his kindness and professionalism. If 0 stars were available that would have been my selection!! The first one failed within an hour of setup. They talked me into a second one and sent a return label along with it. Opening the box and removing the "new" on, I found that it was at best a refurbished one. The holes for the leg screws were stripped, and it was filthy! I looked closely at the heating element, and it is probably a $20 gizzmo with a $3 fan. I will say that I have been refunded my money upon their receipt of both defective machines. I bought a Oxford model at Wal-Mart (buy online and ship-to-store at $0 shipping) and it arrived and is everything it was supposed to be and much nicer - and, it was about $70 less!!

Great, easy to use product
I bought the kettle a few weeks ago and think it's perfect for what it is--simple, fast and good looking. It has an automatic shut off which is great. The only thing I think may be a drawback for some people is the medium/small water capacity, although I think you can buy it in a larger size.

Good while it lasted...
This kettle is great for atleast a year. If you use it as much as I do (boiling water at least twice to three times a day), then you can be assured that the hinge at the lid will break, which causes the lid to not close which causes the kettle to happily keep boiling away because the automatic shut-off relies on the lid being closed completely, the partially broken hinge gives you false assurance that the lid is closed, but not close enough.. ! This is after a year and a half of use. Whereas my husbands old screw cap kettle works a charm even after 8 years of use.
The good thing about this is that you can remove it from the base and it works like a cordless kettle.

I will probably not buy this product again.

This really does heat water super quick. It's perfect for those who like a proper cup of tea without waiting for the kettle to boil on the stove. It took only a few minutes to bring a full kettle to boil. Also, it's not too heavy when full of water. The kettle detaches from the base easily too. So make room for a 6-8 inch circular plate on your counter because you'll use it every day.

Excellent Kitchen appliance. Great quality
First of all Amazon did a excellent job by shipping in a day even though it is a super saver shipping. Now about the unit: Zojirushi is synonymous with quality.

Positive:

1) Superb build quality; (Made in Japan)
2) This is really energy efficient. Because this a flask too, you can turn of the unit and at the same time have hot water (160 to 180 degrees) for 6 hours or so.
3) I find it very simple to operate.
4) I need lots of of hot water - For tea, coffee and also I mix Honey with warm water and drink it in empty stomach. So this unit is really useful
5) This has a handle, so you can heat and carry it in the car. Does not weigh much even with 4 liters of water.
5) you can program it through Timer

Negative points

Obliviously the cost. Are you willing to pay 160$ for a water heater? I did because I use it very often and reliability and energy efficiency is important to me

The inside of is coated with gray color material and I assume this is safe. I was expecting to see a Glass like surface (like in a flask).

Does it really need to cost so much??
When I first told my mom that I had bought her something that heats water she looked at me strangely. When I told her that it cost more than $150, she almost killed me. But a few months later, this hot water heater is the most used appliance in the house. She doesn't know what she'd do without this water heater on the counter.

I have one of these on my counter as well (although an older model) and there isn't a day that goes by that this isn't used. It is great to have hot water on hand to make instant coffee or tea. Even better, I can make ramen in less than 5 minutes (and not the instant bowl kind) because I don't have to wait for water to boil.

I've never bothered to take a power meter (like the kill-a-watt) to see how much this thing is costing me per year...but this thing is pretty well insulated. More importantly, I don't care how much power it wastes. It a time-saver!

Dangerous to health
Minor issues:
1. Auto shut-off not so automatic. Therefore, we had to watch it and manually shut it off when it started boiling.
2. Filter is difficult to fit in.

Major Issue:
After a few months, SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER FROM INSIDE the kettle became the norm. As it turns out, the metal that heats the water touches rubber and emits a caustic stench during boiling. Needless to say, the water and kettle smells real bad - rendering it undrinkable.

Avoid. Get something else.

I had already had an electric water kettle from another manufacturer. I bought this one because it was portable,held more water and shut off after boiling. It works great!!, and the price was right. My son even commented on it, how he loved the fact that it cut off when it had reached a boiling point, also the fact that it is portable. Also I like that it holds enough water to make a few cups of tea, hot chocolate, etc. without having to refil. The filter is a nice addition also.

Works great, efficient, inexpensive
This is a very good product, inexpensive, "cordless" (can be removed from its base), boils water fast. What more could you want?

Happy about the heater but the directions are a little arcane
The heater heats up the space well, but I am having trouble following the directions in the little handbook. Written for people on the moon, I think. Turning the device on is complicated and I haven't figured out why yet. But, it's working, so that is the pay-off.

excellent heater
I am very pleased with this heater. Unfortunately, the first heater sent to me did not work. I am still trying to work out the procedure for the return. This has been a huge headache. When the second heater arrived, it was exactly what I had hoped. It has remote control. It can quickly heat my bedroom or living room. My only complaint is the horrible trial it has become to return the defective heater. This trial has been going on for almost 3 months and is not yet completed.

high defect rate; great when not defective
I have had three of these. The first one, ordered last fall, works great. Based on that, we ordered another one a couple weeks ago.

The second unit was defective: The "high" heat setting provides the same heat output and fan speed as the "low" setting, which isn't much. We read the manual, learned all the controls, and I am certain this is a defect rather than "user error."

Amazon makes returns easy. I emailed Amazon, they immediately shipped a new unit (without waiting to receive the defective one back). Their system produced a pre-paid return label for me to stick on the box to ship the defective unit back. Great service, couldn't have been easier.

The replacement unit arrived in two days. Unfortunately, it has the exact same defect: it doesn't put out much heat, and the "high" setting yields the same low fan speed and low heat output as the "low" setting.

The first unit we purchased last fall still works great. If we hadn't received 2 defective units in a row, I'd take a few more minutes to tell you about the great features it has.

Instead, I'll just recommend that you look for a more reliable brand.

Some good, some bad
I have mixed emotions about this product. The design is certainly very attractive. The exterior is flawless, although I was disappointed that the polished crome/silver matte parts are actually plastic. It heats water faster than kettles I've used in the past. I experienced none of the "foul/chemical smell" reported by other reviewers. On the downside, mine suddenly stopped working after only 1 month of use. This is a big hassle and unacceptable for a product in this price range.

Best Glass Kettle Yet!
I have no Idea what everyone is talking about. I have read some abasing comments on this kettle and I have to admit it is a wonderful piece of hardware for any tea drinker. I have owned this product for four months now and have had no problems with it so far. Some people reported a smell, the smell is called new and it goes away with two brews. No leaks and I use this product in my office and it is abused on a regular basis. I am very pleased and would recommend this to anyone who loves fast boiling water and a good cup of tea.

It leaks... After 6 months of use
This is the second Braun boiler I am buying in a year. In the first one, the power switch quit much sooner than I expected. This model lasted for 6 months, and started to leak. No more Braun for me.

Pure Genius

Great Water Kettle
I don't know how well made other kettle are, this is my first. But this one works very well for me. I've had it for one year now and I have no complaints. It does boil water and it does it very fast. That's all I need. No rusts or leak anywhere yet.

I just bought this yesterday, it's great. I had a Bodum Curl for 3 years before this one & I waited a year to replace...why? I have no idea...I missed all the uses for it...I do not like using my microwave oven except for reheating food because I don't like the microwave stories. Great concept - lousy execution
It's very handy; almost a necessity if you drink a lot of tea, etc. We had one many yrs ago -- it was great and lasted a long time. And we have had several more since.

They are now made in China, and thus the "quality" is now JUNK. As other reviewers point out, they are apt to leak/drip, heat inconsistently [some go crazy steaming up the room], and conk out completely within a couple of years.

Unfortunately, there is no alternative similar product that I am aware of.

Hot water fast
I love the hotshot, this is my second one. It's very fast, it pours directly into a cup or bowl and the design is really nice. One minor detail that is different from the old one, when dispensing the water it takes a little longer to get the last few drops of water out.I usually pour the water in to boil and by the time I get the tea and cup out, the water is ready.

I can't imagine life without a Sunbeam Hot Shot.
My older Sunbeam Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser is still working and in great shape. I decided on getting another one because I'm switching the color scheme of my kitchen and heaven forbid one have a Sunbeam Hot Shot Hot Water Dispener which clashes with their kitchen decor! I'll keep my old one in my studio so I can make tea while I slave away, creating one masterpiece after another. It will also be the one I drag around with me when traveling.

My new Sunbeam Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser heats water which is hotter than the older one. This will be a major plus for instant hot cereal.

When I'm cooking condensed canned soup on the stove which requires a can of water to be added, I heat the water in my Sunbeam Hot Shot to speed up the heating process. Anything I'm cooking on the stove which requires boiling water, things like pasta, I heat it up in my Sunbeam Hot Shot first. Then I continue heating it up on the stove and see it coming to a rolling boil faster. This saves a little money on my electric bill too.

It's great to use for the hot water needed for making jello too.

I heat up water in my Sunbeam Hot Shot before putting it in my espresso machine so it makes my espresso or other cafe beverages faster. I have a steam based Krups espresso machine. I'm a hard core coffee drinker, I don't do coffee makers or coffee pots. And being a hard core caffiene junkie, I want my espresso ASAP.

Excellent product. This also makes a terrific gift for anyone. The kids who live in college dorms who I've given one to have always loved theirs as have my tea drinking friends. It's alway been a Christmas or Channuka gift for someone on my gift giving list. Makes a terrific Thank You gift for the neighbor who waters your plants or feeds your cats while your away too.

Oh, there are no limits to your uses of this wonderful little appliance.

When traveling and staying in a motel or hotel, I always take my Sunbeam Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser with me for tea, coffee, and making hot cereal. Just pop in a filter, add enough coffee for one cup, set the Ready Set Joe on top of your coffee mug then simply pour hot water over the coffee for wonderful cup of fresh drip coffee. If you're like me, and have a caffeine monkey on your back, it's hard leaving your hotel or motel room before having a cup of coffee first. And not every hotel or motel has a coffee maker in each of their rooms. The nearest restaurant can seem like it's a million miles away when you haven't had your coffee yet. If you have instant hot cereal or donuts with you, you can save money not spending it on an overpriced resturant breakfast.

So far I haven't had any leaking from this one. My older one does leak. And if it does, so what. Grab a rag, a sponge, or a paper towel and wipe it up. And don't put it on anything you wouldn't want water leaking like your stereo, TV, or your 1784 antique desk. If you want to keep it on your desk, modern or antique, put a little tray under it in case it does leak or you overfill your mug.

A very good friend of mine has a Sunbeam Hot Shot he's owned since the 1980's and it's still working. It's a lovely Harvest Gold...uck. I'd never known about these handy dandy hot water dispensers until I met this man and I just had to buy one for myself that same day. That was almost 15 years ago and still works perfectly (it's the one I'm moving into my studio).

The Sunbeam 6131 Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser runs a very close second to my espresso machine in my list of favorite small appliances.

After reading so many negative reviews on electric kettles-- especially about plastic-smelling and tasting water, I was skeptical, but took a leap with the Breville unit. After over a month of use, we are very satisfied. We use it at least 3 times a day, and it is performing very well. Right out of the box it did smell of plastic, but I boiled and dumped several times as suggested in the instructions-- including once with vinegar which sat over night. That seemed to take care of it, and we were getting clean, pure water on the second day. The unit has a sturdy feel to it, and looks good. Completely satisfied.

Works great!
I've had this for about two weeks now, and love it. I love that it detaches from the base. I had to get used to it because previous ones that I've had were corded. It never spills when I pour. It boils fast. The water indicator is unnecessary for me, but a nice feature anyhow. With these electric kettles as well as everything else in this world - you get what you pay for.

Breville electric kettle
I have found that this medium priced electric kettle is convenient and quick to boil water. I bought it because it has an automatic turn off switch and a short audible signal when the water has reached the boiling point. If you are otherwise occupied, you do not have to worry that the kettle will boil dry or be annoyed by a whistling sound.

Perfect for 1 or 2 people.
I have been using this pitcher for about a month now, and am still happy with it. It is a perfect way to keep cold filtered water for one or two people (it is just myself using it) since it only holds 3 or 4 full glasses of water at once. The handle is slightly awkward at times if you have big hands like me, but nothing terrible

Excellent filter system for the price and easy to use
I purchased this Brita filtering system two months ago. We have good local water, but I wanted to improve our drinking water without installing a complicated system. We are very happy with this pitcher and filter system and believe that our drinking water tastes better, and has fewer unwanted elements. I've really noticed an improvement in the flavor of tea and coffee. Even my cats, with their highly developed taste and scent capabilities drink more now that they get filtered water!

I noticed some comments about little charcoal granules- first of all, if you place the filter correctly, these should not appear in the drinking water section of the pitcher. There may be some granules in the filtering section which can be rinsed out, although they will not affect the drinking quality of the water.

Also, I realized that the pitcher is rather small, but that the operative part of the system is the filter. I got out one of those glass 1 gallon jars with a spigot that we all have to make iced tea and drinks in the summer. By perching the filter on the top of the jar, I can make up a gallon of water in about :10 while making breakfast. Then I refill the pitcher. The gallon jar sits on the counter for tea, coffee, cooking water and the pitcher lives in the refrigerator for chilled drinking water. If I'm going to be using a lot of water, I'll just leave the filter perched on the jar, and periodically add some water to the filter section to keep it replenished, making sure the filter never is always submerged and doesn't dry out. Glass is nice because it can be thoroughly cleaned and doesn't pick up odors. This works very well for me and I'm never out of water, although it only takes minutes to filter more. As noted, we're happy with this system as a cost-effective way to have as much clean-tasting, filtered water as we want.

Rheem: disreputable practices, warranty is worthless
A thoroughly disreputable company. Warranty is worthless. If your Rheem water heater has a 6 year warranty and fails after 3.5 years (as ours did), you may find them using all kinds of questionable tactics to escape responsibility.
On three separate calls to three agents they insisted our heater was 7 years old. They had clearly been trained to say this, the patter was so automatic. When challenged with their own web-site's data, which stated (correctly) that the heater was still under warranty, they did not know what to say and hung up! The house had been built only 3.5 years earlier! And indeed, the heater's body was date-stamped 3.5 years ago. What was going on here? Either Rheem was lying, or the plumber or the plumber's merchant had supplied old product, falsely relabeled. Of course the plumber and his merchant denied that. Finally after a lot of photos, heated phone calls, and intervention by the plumber's merchant in escalating to Rheem management, we discovered the procedure for making a claim.
Rheem's claims are handled by a third party agency, ESIS Risk Management. We supplied photos of the leaking rusty tank and the flooding in the cellar and adjacent room that it had caused. ESIS are apparently tarred with the same dirty brush as Rheem. Despite the overwhelming evidence, ESIS' Susan Fritts insisted there was no proof of defect and that a report was required from a `forensic plumber.' Oh yeah, like we had sabotaged our own heater and voluntarily lived without hot water for two weeks?? The forensic exam could cost $1000 and would not be reimbursed even if Rheem were found to be at fault!! Outrageous! That's more than the cost of a new heater! ESIS and Rheem had created an impossible obstacle.
So we were stuck with buying a new heater. Now these things are built like tanks (ha!). They should not fail after 3. 5 years, sitting untouched in a basement. It makes you wonder if Rheem is supplying old refurbs that are falsely relabeled with a new manufacturing date. And then wriggling like crazy to escape any liability. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

BEWARE
I purchased a Tempra 24,As it is advertised for cold areas, and would be suffecient for a small home, with 2 baths.I have a 1400 SF home,with 2 baths and it will not supply hot water for 1 bath, let alone 2, and then it is luke warm.

Good Product, Worthless Seller
I have used this product before, and I am happy with it's performance. However, the one I ordered from this amazon seller failed to ship one to me after I paid for it (waited 20 days). After waiting the full allotted time for delivery, I had to apply for a refund. I did recieve my refund, but that doesn't help when you need a product and are awaiting it's arrival.

Way Too Expensive to Run in Maine
My electric bill went up by $150. I live in Maine, and the ground water is colder here, obviously. We had this unit installed because we used an hot water heater that is in-line with the oil furnace, and oil prices have been out of control. I read that this unit would cost about $50 per month in additional electric costs. This is insane. Go with the propane models if you're looking for tank-less and live North of the Mason-Dixon line.

i bought this to replace the broken water unit in my oil furnace. i must admit i am no good at intstalling anything myself so i had to hire someone to do it for me. finding one company to install the whole thing was a real pain in the butt. i had to find a electrician to run the wires and install the 3 50 amp breakers. then i had to get a full service plumber to install the piping. i used lucas plumbing. they did a very good job. as for the unit itself. i really love it it works just as you would expect. i have not had a chance to use the unit in the winter. i i had it installed in the summer and i live in pennslyvania. the cold incoming water temp in temp in the summer is 75 degrees and about 40 in the middle of the winter. i will post again in the winter to let everyone know how well in works with very gold water coming in. i would definitly recommend the unit to anyone i really like it. just one very important warning!!! you must measure the water flow on all your faucets to make sure you get at least .87 gallons per minute. if you dont you will have no hot water on that faucet until you turn on a second faucet because the unit has a .87 gpm minimum turn on flow through it for it to turn on. check the flow rate during the day time between 1pm to 6pm. that seems to be when the pressure is the lowest. i checked all my faucets at 9pm before i bought it and they all filled a 1 gallon jug in under a minute however. i didnt know the flow was slower during the middle of the day. so. it turned out my faucet in the kitchen was clogged and had a bad valve and had to be replaced. now the new faucet works fine and i measure almost twice as much water coming out of it per minute, anyway so far i really like the unit. i think its awesome. i will get back to this review in the winter to give you the update .
